Civil Engineer
Job Summary:
A Civil Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing the construction of infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, buildings, and water systems. They analyze survey reports, maps, and topographical data to ensure projects meet technical, safety, and environmental standards. Civil Engineers collaborate with architects, construction teams, and government agencies to ensure that designs are executed properly and within budget. They also oversee construction sites, supervise workers, and ensure adherence to engineering principles, building codes, and safety regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Analyze surveys, maps, and other data to plan construction projects.

Assess project requirements, including site improvements, manpower, material needs, and equipment.

Participate in surveying to set reference points and guide construction.
-
Coordinate material requisitions and purchases.
-
Inspect construction sites and supervise workers and subcontractors to ensure quality and safety standards.

Ensure work follows engineering plans and specifications.
-
Implement safety measures and maintain cleanliness at the job site.

Work with foremen, subcontractors, and suppliers to manage project details.

Prepare progress reports for management, including daily activities, safety evaluations, and project performance.

Coordinate inspections with government authorities during construction.

Prepare reports on work progress, costs, and schedule.

Perform materials tests and provide technical advice to supervisors and subcontractors.

Make on-site inspections to ensure compliance with plans, codes, and engineering practices.

Investigate any deviations and ensure proper procedures are followed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
​

Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including structural, geotechnical, transportation, and environmental engineering.

Knowledge of construction materials, techniques, and processes to ensure safe and efficient project execution

Familiarity with local, state, and federal building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure compliance
-
Knowledge of site surveying techniques and how to interpret geographic and topographic data for planning and designing infrastructure projects.

Understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation

Ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions for engineering challenges in design and construction.

Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other engineering tools for creating detailed plans and specifications.

Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with colleagues, contractors, and clients, and to prepare reports and documentation.

Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions regarding materials, costs, and project feasibility.

Ensuring accuracy in design calculations, site assessments, and project execution to avoid errors and meet specifications.

Ability to coordinate multiple aspects of a project, from design to construction, while ensuring timelines and budgets are met.

Ability to lead and supervise teams, including construction workers, subcontractors, and junior engineers, ensuring work is done according to plan and safety standards.

Ability to adjust plans and methods in response to changing project requirements, site conditions, or new information.

Ability to ensure that all work complies with environmental, safety, and quality regulations.

Ability to make quick and informed decisions under pressure, particularly on-site to address issues that may arise during construction.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field is required and with at least two to five (2-5) years of experience in civil engineering or related field.
