Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Summary:
​
The Heavy Equipment Operator position is responsible for handling motorized and non-motorized equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, dump boxes, load boxes, and other similar equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
​

Operates one of several types of power construction equipment such as motor graders, roller compactor, telehandler, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, scissors lift, man lift, shovels, backhoe, excavator, boom truck or front-end loaders to excavate.

Pours concrete or other hard surface pavement.

Repairs and maintains equipment.

Maneuvers motorized heavy equipment to ensure the accurate removal and placement of materials.

Loads and offloads rocks, debris, and other similar materials from one area to another.

Performs routine inspection and maintenance on vehicles such as checking oil, water, and tires.

Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of heavy equipment and supplies.

Drives and controls heavy equipment to complete tasks at a construction site.

Cleans equipment after use and disposes any collected scraps or waste.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Skilled in active listening, retaining information, and asking questions as appropriate.

Skilled in learning strategies, selecting, and using training and instructional methods appropriate for the situation when teaching new information to new workers.

Has effective teamwork and collaborative skills.

Ability to operate heavy equipment.

Ability to lift to 50 pounds worth of construction materials.

Ability to work while being in a prolonged period of standing, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
-
Ability to demonstrate vigilance and being aware of fixtures that can be dangerous to themselves and other workers.

Knowledge of building and construction.
-
Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
-
Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance.

Knowledge of reading blueprints and schematics.
-
Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.

Must be able to have a good sense of balance.
-
Must have an excellent hand-eye coordination.

Education and Experience & Special Requirements:
​
The Heavy Equipment Operator position requires a minimum of a High School diploma and two (2) years’ worth of experience in any related field. Any off-island hires must complete a health screening prior to working in Guam. Similarly, successful applicants must be able toobtain military base access and a driver’s license.
